The Montevallo Community Garden-Seed to Table is a community and educational organic garden. The garden is conveniently located on Overland Road between University Baptist Church and The Swim Club. Members of the local community can rent a 4’ X 8’ plot for $10 per season. Each plot is a raised bed with a 50/50 mixture of topsoil and mushroom compost. The garden has a total of nineteen plots; twelve are available for the community and the remaining seven are used for educational purposes. Volunteers of the garden community offer classes for all ages from pre-schoolers to adults. The classes and workshops cover several topics: organic gardening, canning, nutrition, and fall gardening.

All food grown and harvested in the plots for education is donated to the University Baptist Church Daycare or Shelby Emergency Assistance. The Montevallo Community Garden is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging sustainability in the Montevallo community. All gardening practices must be organic. Currently, the water source for the garden comes from city water. The volunteers of the garden are in the process of beginning a rain collection system, utilizing barrels and the runoff from the roof of the garden’s shed. The board of directors is made up representatives from all facets of the Montevallo community including the university, neighborhoods, and the chamber of commerce. The Montevallo Community Garden-Seed to Table group encourages anyone interested in participating in the garden or classes to contact Leanne Reed or “Like” the garden on Facebook.

To sign up for classes, please contact Leanne Reed at leanne.pearce.reed@gmail.com.
